We checked out of our room and ate breakfast at the Salmon Bake restaurant. Then we began our journey south to Homer. We headed toward Anchorage first and made a few stops to eat lunch and go to the post office, a drive of about 4 hours. The trip from there to Homer took about 4 ½ hours. We made a stop at Portage Glacier, a popular tourist viewing.
We saw lots of moose the last time we traveled this route. We later found out that moose hunting season starts today and somehow the moose know this and head into the hills! So no moose sightings today!
We stopped at the Safeway supermarket in Homer first to say hello to Susan's brother Frank who was at work there. We arrived at Sherry and Jerry's house (Susan's sister and brother-in-law) at about 6:30pm. The rest of the evening was spent eating and talking and looking at the pictures we had taken of Denali .
The weather was a little rainy and is forecast to do the same on Friday. We have no definite plans that will be hindered by the weather, so we're not too upset. They need the rain, as it has been rather scarce the past few weeks.
