Our day at Key West started off cool and very windy. We met our
tour guide at the dock at 8::45AM for the Kayak Nature tour we had
booked. There was another couple there but they wimped out.
So we had a personal tour guide for the morning. Took a van
ride through Key West with "Sue" pointing out some highlights of the
area. We then took a 2 person kayak and our kayak guide "Kelly"
led us through the "back country" of Key West. This waterway is
protected from the ocean currants by the trees you see pictured.
They are a special species that can survive on salt water.
Many marine animals come to lay eggs or hatchlings so they can
grow in the calmer water. Saw several native birds, white egret,
blue heron and one I cannot remember. She also brought up a sea
cucumber and star fish. We also saw an iguana bucked up in a
tree. Really enjoyed the kayak tour even though there was little
sun and minimal warmth.
The ship pulled away from the dock at about 4pm. We noticed
throughout the day that there was quite a "rock" to the ship.
Everyone walks down the halls like they've had one too many of
those fruity cutie drinks. We've gone out several times just to
look at the waves in amazement. I'm not feeling sick, but took a
dramamine this evening just to be sure.
This was formal dinner night. You'll see a picture of Ed and I
all dressed up in our fancy duds. Got our waiter to take a shot
of our meal companions. Lots of fun and food - now if we can just
get some sunshine and warmth my trip will be much more enjoyable.
Time for bed, hope these waves dont't knock me off! Next stop, Cozumel Mexico.
